Braves use a late run to top Mountain Lions

 

Uncp (12-11,6-6), used a late 16-3  run in the 2nd half to clinch the come from behind victory against PBC conference foe young Harris (12-11,10-4), 78-72.

The Braves trailed majority of the game and fell down 14 midway in the 2nd half, but the Braves offense sparked by a trio of underclassmen finally got it going, using a 12-0 run to cut the double digit deficit.

A layup from freshman big man Carson Mounce started the run as he finished with 12 points on a 6-of-9 shooting effort. Fellow freshman big man James Murray- Boyles posted a game high 20 points off the bench, sophomore sensation Brandon Watts finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds as he continues to be a force on the boards this season.

 

It was a highly contested game that saw six ties,seven lead changes, Young Harris took the lead into the half, after a deep three pointer from guard Bjorn Walker as the clock expired.

 

The Mountain Lions were led by their skilled backcourt of Ben Waterhouse and all conference guard C.J. Wilson the two finished with a combined 32 points and 9 assists. The Braves turned up the intensity in the 2nd half on the defensive end, forcing the opposition into costly turnovers and capitalizing on transition points.

 

The bench provided a big spark for Uncp posting a 37-10 victory margin to contribute to the team effort, with the win the Black and Gold gets their first win over the Mountain Lions since the 2012-13 season, after losing this one Young Harris has dropped three of their last five contests.

 

UNCP will next be in action on the road in Greenwood, S.C. , to take on Peach Belt Conference leader Lander University (16-6, 10-3), tip of is set for 5:30 inside Home Arena.
