Braves add much needed depth
Coach Shane Richardson and his staff put in a strong effort on the recruiting trail this off season and were rewarded in a big way.
The Black and Gold will welcome 25 newcomers to their roster for the 2016-17 campaign. This talented group of signees make up one of the biggest classes for the program in recent years multiple position needs were addressed, “We wanted to add quality depth to the offensive line, linebacker and defensive back positions- three of the most critical positions on the football field,” said Coach Richardson.
Uncp returns nine starters on the offensive end, Seven of this year’s signees are offensive lineman along with, one tight end and will look to beef up the Braves offensive front, Uncp will also look to bolster the passing game with the signing of two Quarterbacks Dominik Samson and Connor Stough.
Both signal callers will come into the program having had tremendous success at the prep level , and will look to continue that success at the college level.
On the other side of the ball Code Black which returns 8 starters will add some new faces in the form of five linebackers, four corner backs and two safeties to revamp the secondary which will have some key departures
The future of the Braves linebacking core looks especially bright with two big signings that headline the entire class, Richardson and staff are extremely high on Jordan Howard and Myles more.
Howard a 6-2 190, Linebacker out of Brunswick County recorded 127 tackles in his senior season , and was voted his team’s MVP.
Moore a 6-1 215, linebacker comes from Wedding ton, N.C., he earned all conference in his senior campaign and recorded 132 tackles including (97) solo’s.
These two gentlemen along with the rest of the class will look to live up to future expectations on and off the field.
“These are all high-character guys that bring impressive academic credentials with them as well. I am extremely excited about both of those things. I am confident about this class from top to bottom, especially with the impeccable character and attitudes these guys posses. Our future is very bright.”.
With a strong returning core, a great crop of incoming recruits, and another year in Coach Richardson’s system, there should be lot’s of excitement and expectations looking ahead to the 2016-17 campaign.
